Recently, the news that the US government has raised tariffs on countries around the world has stirred up the global trade market, making world trade full of tension and high uncertainty, but the good news from China has brought confidence and hope to the world. This month, the 137th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) and the 5th China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPEX) held in China have been full of excitement.

China is the world's largest country in terms of goods trade and the second largest country in terms of services trade. It is the driving force, anchor and ballast of global economic recovery. The importance of China's foreign trade to global trade is self-evident. The 137th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) was held in three phases from April 15 to May 5. On April 19, the first phase of the 137th Canton Fair, themed "Advanced Manufacturing", came to an end, with nearly 140,000 overseas buyers from 216 countries and regions around the world attending the fair.

At the first phase of the exhibition, Chinese-made service robots attracted much attention, and the display of various functions made customers dazzled. "Made in China" and international buyers rushed in both directions, and foreign merchants signed contracts on the spot enthusiastically. A Chinese company manager revealed that the deposits received during the exhibition alone exceeded 10 million yuan. Many international buyers from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America expressed strong cooperation intentions for Chinese-made unmanned agricultural equipment, and some buyers directly expressed clear purchasing needs. Merchants from Argentina, Africa and other countries directly expressed their intention to visit and inspect factories in mainland China.

On April 23, the second offline exhibition of the 137th Canton Fair opened. The second phase was themed "Quality Home Furnishing" and had the largest number of exhibits among the three phases.

On April 18, the 6-day 5th China International Consumer Products Expo closed. This year's Expo attracted more than 1,700 companies and 4,200 brands from more than 70 countries and regions around the world, including 65 Fortune 500 companies and leading companies, setting a record high for the scale of the exhibition. There were more than 60,000 professional buyers at the Expo. Humanoid robots, AI smart office products, sleep aids... the high-quality products that took turns to appear reflected the "new" trend of the consumer market. The development of the Expo witnessed the continuous release of China's super-large-scale market advantages.

Recently, China also released a set of important economic data: China's National Bureau of Statistics released data, preliminary calculations show that GDP in the first quarter of this year increased by 5.4% year-on-year. Data from the General Administration of Customs of China showed that China's import and export scale in the first quarter hit a record high, exceeding 10 trillion yuan for eight consecutive quarters.

Due to well-known reasons, the current global trade market situation is tense. China has strong industrial capacity, efficient global supply chain coordination capabilities and continuously improving competitiveness, which makes it show strong resilience in the face of challenges. Relevant data show that China is actively responding to the current global trade tensions through measures such as market diversification and expanding domestic demand. In the first quarter of this year, ASEAN continued to be China's largest trading partner, with imports and exports increasing by 7.1% year-on-year; China's imports and exports to the EU increased by 1.4% year-on-year. China also continues to deepen its economic and trade relations with its partners in the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". In the first quarter of this year, China's imports and exports to the countries participating in the construction of the "Belt and Road" reached 5.26 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.2% year-on-year, setting a new record for the same period in history, accounting for 51.1% of China's foreign trade.

As the world's second largest consumer market, China has introduced a series of policies to expand domestic demand and promote consumption since the third quarter of last year, stabilizing and expanding residents' consumption and promoting a stable and positive economy. China's "Government Work Report" in 2025 proposed to implement special actions to boost consumption. With the implementation of a series of relevant policy measures, China's consumer market will usher in greater development opportunities, and will also create greater space for global companies to share the Chinese market.

After the all-round game with the United States in the past few years, although China's economic growth has slowed down, it has not been fundamentally impacted. The economic structural adjustment has made significant progress, the economic resilience has been further improved, and the scientific and technological strength has been continuously strengthened. At the same time, China's industrial chain, supply chain autonomy and market substitution capabilities have also been significantly improved in the past few years.

The world is full of expectations for China. As the United States has significantly increased tariffs, Chinese companies have taken the opportunity of the Canton Fair to actively connect with markets such as Europe, ASEAN, Latin America, and the Middle East to reduce their dependence on the US market. The China Consumer Goods Expo provides a window for global consumer products to enter the Chinese market, while also creating opportunities for Chinese high-quality consumer products to go global and promoting the connection between supply and demand in the global consumer market. The successful holding of the China Consumer Goods Expo not only builds a bridge of communication and cooperation for global companies and creates a consumer hub for "buying from the world and selling to the world", but also demonstrates China's determination to expand high-level opening up to the outside world and injects confidence into the global economic recovery.

In recent years, China's contribution to global economic growth has remained at around 30%, making it an important engine of world economic growth. The world economy is a vast ocean, with countries developing in harmony with each other. Multilateral cooperation, deepening mutual trust, pragmatic cooperation, and sharing opportunities have always been the main theme of global economic and trade cooperation. China plays an important role in the global trade landscape. We have reason to believe that China, which is constantly opening up, will share development opportunities with countries around the world and achieve mutual benefit, win-win results, and common development.
